Policy GuidelinesAll standard classrooms within the Wharton Complex are equipped with installed PCs which allow for projection of computer(s) and/or video. Projection usage is included as part of In-Room Technology should your group be subject to technology usage fees. Projection is offered either by utilizing the installed PC or by connection of your own equipment via a VGL cable tethered to the installed PC. Users requiring connection of a Macintosh laptop should supply their own DVI to VGA connector. There are several ways in which you can transport/load your files onto the installed PC. An online method like email to self/logon to retrieve, webCafé, network drives, or eRoom is most common. The event coordinator(s) and/or presenter(s) should bring two copies of the presentations to the event (one as a backup). A backup such as CD-R, DVD-R, or USB key is strongly recommend in the event you are unable to access your files online the day of your class/event/presentation. A laptop is not necessary unless you prefer using your laptop or unless your presentation requires a piece of software not installed on the classroom machines. If you require assistance loading your files onto the in-room computer, you can request technician assistance via an online request. Faculty can also ask their Academic Distributed Representative for assistance. Event coordinator(s) and presenter(s) with files to be pre-loaded should make sure they bring the files no later than the technician’s startup time to allow sufficient time for the technician to load them. In an effort to ensure you have all the most recent versions of files for your event, Public Technology can not accept any files that need to be pre-loaded for an event via email. This will eliminate any chance of files not reaching your event due to system outages or last minute technician assignments. Testing your computer and video presentations ahead of time is encouraged and will increase the success during your actual event. Testing consists of trying your file on the in-room installed computer, checking sound files or other multimedia, or hooking up your laptop to our projection systems for the first time. It is very important that all presentations compatible on your laptop are tested in the classroom beforehand, especially multimedia presentations and self created DVD-Rs, in case there are differences between your laptop build and our classroom PCs. Testing your equipment with our projection systems is strongly advised in order to eliminate potential issues caused by device incompatibility . If you are bringing your own equipment to your event, please test it as early as possible, but at least 48 hours ahead of your presentation. It is required that you test your laptop before using it on the 8th floor. You can request scheduling of a test time with us by submitting an online request. In the rooms with two projectors, you have the added option of extended desktop so you can project two different applications from the resident computer at the same time. |
